BPLA – On the Air Pilot

Suds on the Radio

It has been a long time goal of mine to, at the very least, attempt a podcast, hence “Bierkast.”  Wether it was convenience or general time-commitment, podcasting just never came to fruition, until now.  On February 19th, 2015, John Michael Verive (Beer Paper LA, LA Times Daily Dish, Beer of Tomorrow, Paste, etc) and I launched the pilot episode of Beer Paper LA – On the Air, the radio companion to the monthly beer publication, Beer Paper LA.  The aim for this new podcast is to present current beer events, discussed in print edition, through traditional talk-style radio and story driven segments.  While it’s hard to compare a fledgling podcast to This American Life, that is a loose model that, at the very least some of the show, will strive towards.

In this pilot episode we go over basic introductions, talk about the current state of LA beer, and taste Populist XL. We also feature interviews from Eagle Rock Brewery’s Jeremy Raub and Highland Park Brewery’s Bob Kunz.

I wanted to give a huge shout-out to Verive for his excellent job editing the pilot.  He did an exceptional job with our limited resources.  The final product is definitely something to be proud of. Episode two is in the works, the format is still being debated, and the release day is still TBD.  The aim is to have this be a regular monthly show that will nicely accompany Beer Paper LA print edition.

Please listen, ponder, and let us know what you think.  We’re trying to do something different here and we think there is a market for this style of reporting and story telling.

Check the show out on itunes here or on libsyn here!
