On Saturday July 28, 2012, over 18 LA area craft beer writers assembled at Eagle Rock Brewery. This marked the first official meeting of the LA Craft Beer Bloggers. Eagle Rock Brewery generously opened their taproom early for the event and supplied a great priced eight taster flight of their flagship and seasonal brews. Solidarity, Revolution, Manifesto, Populist, Ginger Saison, Unionist Kolsch, Umlaut, and Belgian IPA were all there. What could be better than an awesome selection of the ultimate in local LA beer?! Thank you Eagle Rock Brewery!
We also received beer from Firestone Walker, which included Wookey Jack, Double Jack, and Double DBA. They were nice enough to include some tasting sheets along with the beer, and for all of you that are wondering, yes Double DBA is awesome, so go out and get some. Thank you Christopher Weir from Firestone Walker for supporting us in this inaugural event.
To recap the meeting for everyone that made it and everyone that couldn’t, we made general introductions and talked about issues such as the craft beer at Dodger stadium petition currently being headed by Beer of Tomorrow and Beers In Paradise. Definitely jump on this issue as it’s a hot topic and is critical to LA beer culture. We also had LA beer personality and fellow beer writer Tomm Carroll speak about his time writing for the Los Angeles beer scene before and after the boom. Jeremy spoke about his work in both establishing his brewery and cataloging the process online. His ERB blog was pivotal in getting many of us interested in writing about the craft. In a nutshell, it was a great networking and state-of-the-industry event for everyone involved. It was an exceptional opportunity to meet the faces behind some of the great craft beer and event websites in LA. I for one am excited for the next event.
Cheers and thanks for coming!
