LA Beer Week at Beer Belly

I stopped in to share some beer with Jimmy, the owner of Beer Belly this week. It had been a while since I’d made it out to this Koreatown craft beer treasure; although, I feel like I had been many times over thanks to Beer Belly’s active social media presence and involvement in the local food and beer community. For example, this neighborhood event: Backyard Boogie or the aptly named “Crap for Craft” beer exchange event

The tap list at Beer Belly is constantly rotating and features a great variety of locally brewed beer. Some of the current highlights include: the new seasonal Craftsman Saison – a darker more full bodied interpretation of the style very fitting for the fall season; Cismontante Oktoberfest – always love to see locally brewed Oktoberfests since the delicate lagers we get from Germany are usually a little beat up by the time they get to us; and Golden Road IPA and Hefeweizen – a new brewery located in Atwater Village. These were stellar; no “first time using the system” hangover for this brewey.

Since I visited on the cusp of LA Beer Week (Oct. 10th – 23rd) Jimmy shared some of the events that they would be hosting.

On 10/12, The Bruery is stopping by for a “Meet the Brewer” event and tap takeover. The list of Bruery beers is extensive and includes the new collaboration between The Bruery and Dogfish Head: Faster, Bigger, Better, Bolder (Gradually, Quietly, Steadily).

On 10/16, there is another “Meet the Brewer” event, this time with Brea, CA based TAPS and their head brewer Victor Novak (2011 GABF Brewpub Brewer of the Year). They are masters of the classical styles and are bringing up a lot of great beer including Cream Ale, Oktoberfest, and Bier de Garde (aged in red wine barrels).

On 10/22, the founder of beer-geek-loved social media site Untappd will be there for a 1 year anniversary party. Untappd, a beer check-in and rating website, was recently featured on Good – check it out HERE. The event will feature beers from the relatively new South Bay brewery, El Segundo Brewing Company.

As always, you don’t have to wait for one of these special events to come in and find great food and beer. A fantastic supporter of the local craft beer movement, Beer Belly deserves all the success it is enjoying!
